The Project Monitoring Group (PMG) has proposed a major transmission scheme to support solar power zones in Rajasthan and Gujarat. The plan was discussed in a meeting held on July 3, 2025.

PMG functions under Invest India, which is housed within the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce.

The proposed Transmission System Strengthening Scheme involves building high-capacity transmission lines and substations that can handle large volumes of solar power.

In Rajasthan, the scheme will focus on Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and Barmer. In Gujarat, the project will target Surendranagar, Patan, and Kutch. These regions are already part of ongoing solar park and green energy corridor developments.

The total estimated cost of the transmission scheme is Rs 141.47 billion.
