Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging carport at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat. Developed by Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL), an Energy Efficiency Services Ltd subsidiary, this initiative underscores the government’s commitment to clean energy and green mobility.

With backing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the carport has bi-facial mono-crystalline solar modules and a battery energy storage system (BESS).

This facility, with a 50 kWp solar capacity and 200 kWh battery storage, can charge up to 10 EVs using a mix of fast and slow chargers. The carport is outfitted with advanced features, including app-based vehicle charging, real-time battery monitoring, 24-hour CCTV surveillance, and a seating area for drivers.

CESL’s Managing Director and CEO, Vishal Kapoor, highlighted the project as a significant step towards realizing the Prime Minister’s vision of green mobility. Equipped with 60kW CCS II fast chargers, AC001, and Type II AC chargers, the carport reflects CESL’s commitment to sustainable innovation and India’s transition to a greener future.

The inauguration of this facility marks a milestone in expanding EV infrastructure nationwide, aligning with India’s sustainability goals and promoting eco-friendly transportation solutions.
