PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL) issued a Request for Proposal (RfP) on May 22, 2025, to select a transmission service provider (TSP) for a new substation in Pune district. The project will follow a tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process on a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) basis. Bid submissions are due by July 28, 2025.

PFCCL is the bid process coordinator (BPC) for this Maharashtra project. The scope includes a 2×500 MVA, 400/220 kV air-insulated substation (AIS) at Saswad with a 125 MVAr bus reactor at the 400 kV level. Commissioning is scheduled within 18 months of the effective date.

The substation will be equipped with two 500 MVA interconnecting transformers (ICTs), one 125 MVAr reactor, two 400 kV ICT bays, two 220 kV ICT bays, four 400 kV line bays, eight 220 kV line bays, and one 400 kV reactor bay. The layout also includes space for future ICT and bay expansion.

In addition to the substation works, the package includes two 400 kV GIS line bays at the proposed 765 kV Pune-III substation. It also involves installing two 220 kV line bays each at Theur and Nanded City substations, both of which already exist. New transmission lines include a 400 kV double circuit line from Saswad to 765 kV Pune-III and a 220 kV double circuit line with high-performance conductor (HPC) to Theur.

The scope further includes a loop-in loop-out (LILO) connection on the 400 kV Lonikand-I–Koyna line at Saswad and a LILO of both circuits of the 220 kV Jejuri–Phursungi line at the same location. A 220 kV double circuit line from Saswad to Nanded City is also part of the project.
