Orlen Group, through its subsidiary ORLEN Wind 3, has finalized the acquisition of two solar photovoltaic (PV) farms and a wind farm from EDP Renewables Polska, boosting its renewable energy generation capacity by more than 300 MW. The assets include solar PV farms in the Zielona Góra and Poznań provinces, and a wind farm in the Łódź province. This acquisition raises Orlen Group’s total installed capacity to 580 MW in onshore wind farms and over 350 MW in solar PV projects.
The newly acquired assets are expected to generate 400 GWh of electricity annually, sufficient to power approximately 182,000 households. The 26 MW Warta onshore wind farm in Łódź began operations in May 2023, while the Chotków solar farm in Zielona Góra, with a 40 MWp capacity, became operational in January 2024. The second solar PV farm in Przykona, Poznań, has a 200 MWp capacity and is undergoing an expansion of an additional 40 MWp, set for completion by the end of 2024.
Orlen Group is also enhancing its footprint in the Wielkopolska region through these investments, adding to its existing assets like the Gryf solar project. The company is further expanding its renewable energy portfolio with smaller installations, such as a 3 MW solar PV system at its Ostrów Wielkopolski fuel terminal.
Additionally, Orlen’s subsidiary Energa Wytwarzanie has signed a preliminary agreement with Greenvolt for the Opalenica and Sompolno projects, totaling 58 MW. Construction is ongoing for the Mitra (65 MW) and Żuki (2.4 MW) solar PV farms. Orlen Group is targeting 9 GW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2030, including offshore developments such as the Baltic Power project.
In August 2024, Orlen Wind 3 signed a preliminary agreement with EDP Renewables Polska to acquire these wind and solar assets.
