Ohmium International has signed a term sheet with SwitcH2 BV, a renewable energy joint venture involving BW Offshore, to develop PEM electrolyser systems for a 300 MW offshore floating green hydrogen and ammonia synthesis project. The agreement involves the supply of 300 MW PEM electrolyser solutions, which will be installed on SwitcH2’s 268-meter FPSO vessel.
The electrolysers will harness solar and wind energy, combined with treated seawater, to produce green hydrogen. This hydrogen will feed into an onboard ammonia synthesis unit, with the green ammonia subsequently offloaded to carriers for transport to off-takers. Supported by the Dutch government and approved in principle by Norwegian certification agency DNV, the project is scheduled to commence green ammonia production by 2029.
Earlier in the year, Ohmium launched a new gigafactory in India, covering 14,000 square meters. The facility will manufacture 2 GW of fully assembled and tested electrolyser systems, consolidating manufacturing, assembly, quality assurance, testing, warehousing, and shipping operations under one roof.
