NTPC Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Octopus Energy Group of the United Kingdom to explore collaboration across electricity distribution and retail, renewable energy and storage, electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, digital energy platforms, and research and development (R&D).

The MoU was signed on March 19, 2026, on the sidelines of the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026 in New Delhi, organised under the Ministry of Power (MoP) from March 19 to 22. The signing was witnessed by Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, MoP, and Piyush Singh, Additional Secretary, MoP, along with NTPC Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Gurdeep Singh and NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Renu Narang. The agreement was signed by Dr. Jatinder Singh Chandok, Head of International Business Development at NTPC, and Chris Fitzgerald, Group Director of International Affairs at Octopus Energy.

Scope and structure

The MoU is non-binding and provides a framework for both companies to jointly identify and evaluate opportunities. The collaboration may extend across India, the United Kingdom, and other mutually agreed markets. No specific investments or projects have been committed at this stage.

Octopus Energy, established in 2016 in the United Kingdom, operates in energy retail and digital energy management. It has developed Kraken, a proprietary technology platform used for managing customer accounts and grid-edge services across multiple markets.

The engagement aligns with NTPC’s ongoing efforts to expand beyond generation into distribution, retail, and digital energy services.
