NTPC secures land in three states for nuclear power projects

Author: PPD Team Date: August 21, 2025

NTPC Ltd has received land assurances from Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh to set up nuclear power plants through its subsidiary NTPC Parmanu Urja Nigam Ltd (NPUNL), officials told Moneycontrol.

The company has sought guarantees on water availability before beginning geotechnical studies. A twin 700 MW reactor unit requires about 70 million cubic meters of water annually, a key factor in site selection.

NTPC plans to invest at least $60 billion in nuclear energy over the next two decades. Of India’s 100 GW nuclear capacity target by 2047, NTPC has been mandated to deliver 30 GW using pressurised heavy water reactors, small modular reactors, and new technologies.
