NTPC completes coal business transfer to NTPC Mining arm

NTPC Limited has completed the transfer of its entire coal mining business to NTPC Mining Limited (NML), its wholly owned subsidiary, with the final tranche involving the Pakri Barwadih Coal Mine in Hazaribagh district, Jharkhand, and the Coal Mining Headquarters at Ranchi transferred with effect from April 1, 2026. Commercial operation of the Pakri Barwadih North West Coal Mining Project has also commenced from the same date.
The transfer has been executed under an amended Business Transfer Agreement dated September 17, 2025. NTPC had been implementing the hive-off in phases since August 2025, with earlier tranches completed in October and December 2025 and February 2026.
With the transfer of the Pakri Barwadih asset, all coal mining operations now reside within NTPC Mining Limited, completing the structural separation of NTPC’s coal business from the parent entity.
