NTPC Limited has commissioned 142.22 MW of solar capacity under its 300 MW solar allocation at the 450 MW Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected Wind-Solar Hybrid Power Project (Tranche-V) in Khavda, Gujarat. The milestone was achieved on June 28, 2025.
The project forms part of the 450 MW capacity awarded to NTPC in May 2022 during the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) Tranche-V auction. SECI had initially invited bids for 1,200 MW ISTS-connected hybrid capacity on a build, own and operate (BOO) basis in October 2021. NTPC’s share includes 300 MW solar and 150 MW wind power.
In a parallel development, NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC, commissioned 146.7 MW under the 1,255 MW Khavda-I Solar PV Project on the same date. With this, 256.95 MW has now been commissioned under the Khavda-I project.
This solar capacity is part of NTPC’s larger 4,750 MW Wind-Solar Hybrid Renewable Energy Park being developed in Khavda, Kutch. The entire park spans 9,500 hectares and is being built in two zones to accommodate both wind and solar infrastructure.
Sterling and Wilson Private Limited is serving as the Balance of System (BoS) contractor for the Khavda-I Solar PV Project.
The state-run Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited (GIPCL) is the nodal agency for implementing the park. SECI, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), and the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) will jointly develop the required transmission systems.
