NLC India (NLCIL) has commenced commercial operations of the first 660 MW unit of its 3×660 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant (GTPP) in Uttar Pradesh.
The unit, which completed its trial operation on 7 December 2024, began commercial operations on 12 December 2024. This is the first fossil fuel-based thermal power plant commissioned in India in this financial year.
With this addition, NLCIL and its group companies have increased their total installed power generation capacity from 6,071 MW to 6,731 MW.
The GTPP project, developed through Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power (NUPPL), a joint venture with Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (UPRVUNL), will meet the growing electricity demands of Uttar Pradesh and Assam. Equipped with supercritical technology, the plant achieves higher efficiency, reduced fuel consumption, and lower emissions.
