NHPC to develop 2,000 MW pumped storage in Rajasthan

NHPC Limited and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop two pumped storage projects (PSPs) of 1,000 MW each in Rajasthan. The projects will be implemented through a joint venture (JV) between the two entities.
This move strengthens NHPC’s presence in Rajasthan, where it recently began commercial operations of 107.14 MW of solar capacity. The project is part of the 1,000 MW Grid Connected Solar PV Power Project under CPSU Scheme Tranche-III and was commissioned on April 12, 2025, at Bikaner.
