NHPC Limited declared the commercial operation date (CoD) for Unit 4 of the Parbati Hydro Electric Project Stage-II on April 16, 2025. With this, the entire 800 MW project is now fully commissioned.
The project is built on the Beas River in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, around 260 km from Chandigarh. Developed at an investment of Rs 98.97 billion, the plant uses four Pelton turbine units of 200 MW each.
Parbati Stage-II is part of a larger cascade scheme that includes Stage I (750 MW) and Stage III (501 MW). This stage features an 85-metre-high concrete gravity dam and a 31.5 km head race tunnel (HRT), forming a run-of-the-river system to generate about 3,108.66 million units (MUs) of electricity annually.
Electricity from the plant will be evacuated via the Parbati Koldam transmission line. Beneficiary states include Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
