MoP clears transmission line for Project Nine’s 250 MW wind project

Author: PPD Team Date: March 31, 2026

The Ministry of Power (MoP) has authorised Project Nine Renewable Power Private Limited to lay a transmission line for its 250 MW wind project in Gadag district, Karnataka. The approval, issued under Section 164 of the Electricity Act, 2003, was notified through a Gazette dated March 27, 2026.

The authorisation allows the company to construct an overhead line to connect the project to the inter-state transmission system (ISTS). It grants powers equivalent to a telegraph authority under the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885. The approval is valid for 25 years.

The transmission scheme involves a 220 kilovolt (kV) single-circuit line on a double-circuit tower. It will run from the generation pooling station at Nidagundi village in Gajendragad tehsil, Gadag, to the Gadag-II pooling station, an ISTS substation.

The line will pass through multiple villages across Gadag and Koppal districts, including Nidagundi, Naregal, Timmapura, Harlapura, Kotumuchagi, Halligudi, Yarehanchinala, Binnala Kukanura and Tondihala.

The MoP had granted prior approval under Section 68(1) of the Electricity Act in December 2024. Public notices were issued in July 2025 in Deccan Herald, Rajasthan Patrika, Prajavani and Vijaya Karnataka, and in the Weekly Gazette of India in August 2025. The company submitted an affidavit in January 2026 confirming that no objections were received within the stipulated period.

Before commissioning the line, the company is required to obtain approvals from local bodies, railways and highway authorities. It also needs civil aviation and defence clearances for submission to the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), along with approval from the Electrical Inspector or Chief Electrical Inspector of the Central Government.

The development follows a similar authorisation granted by the MoP on March 25, 2026, to Sprng Power Earth Private Limited for a transmission line linked to its 250 MW solar project in Banaskantha district, Gujarat.
