In the latest meeting of the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), five thermal power projects were reviewed:
- Deen Bandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant, Haryana: The proposal to expand the existing 2×300 MW coal-based units by installing a new 1×800 MW supercritical unit was recommended for fresh environmental clearance.
- Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited, Chhattisgarh: The plan to expand the existing 1340 MW capacity to 2660 MW through the addition of 2 x 660 MW supercritical units was deferred for further consideration.
- Nabinagar Thermal Power Plant, Bihar: The proposal for a 3×660 MW supercritical coal-based unit at the Nabinagar Power Generating Company Ltd. site was recommended for an amendment in its environmental clearance.
- Lalitpur Thermal Power Plant, Uttar Pradesh: The expansion project to add 2400 MW (3×800 MW) to the existing 1980 MW capacity was deferred due to the proponent’s absence.
- Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited, Gujarat: The proposal to replace demolished 2×120 MW units with a new 800 MW supercritical unit faced significant issues. Due to a lack of factual information and unsubstantiated claims, the EAC advised the proponent and consultant to revise the Terms of Reference (ToR) application with accurate details for fresh consideration.
