The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has invited proposals under the “Innovative Projects” component of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The call aims to support new technologies and business models that advance rooftop solar (RTS) adoption across India. The deadline for proposal submission is 29 July 2025.
The National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) will act as the implementation agency. It will oversee project progress, fund use, and adherence to set milestones. The focus is to demonstrate scalable innovations for RTS systems.
Target areas include blockchain-based peer-to-peer trading, grid-responsive systems with storage, EV integration, smart monitoring platforms, solar-enabled building materials, hybrid systems, and AI-driven energy management. Other themes cover low-cost deployment, community solar models, predictive maintenance, and urban planning integration.
Proposals are expected to outline clear objectives, work plans, deliverables, and performance indicators. They should explain how the innovation differs from existing practices and confirm technical feasibility within resource limits. Eligible applicants include academic and R&D institutions, industries, NGOs, societies, students, and DPIIT-recognised startups.
Financial support will cover up to 60% of the project cost or Rs 30 crore, whichever is lower. Up to 50% of this may be disbursed at the start to support early procurement. Further payments will depend on milestone reviews. Overhead expenses are capped at 8% of the project cost or Rs 15 lakh, whichever is lower, and will be released after final verification.
