Minister directs to prepare pre-feasibility report for floating solar installations on lakes

Karnataka’s Minister N S Boseraju has instructed officials to prepare a pre-feasibility report on the potential for floating solar installations across lakes managed by the Minor Irrigation Department. This initiative aims to explore the viability of using lake surfaces for solar energy production, optimizing land use, and supporting the region’s renewable energy objectives.

During a high-level meeting, representatives from Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Sungrow, Aarushi Green Energy, SILL, and Trere discussed plans for harnessing solar power from small irrigation ponds. The discussions emphasized the growing potential of floating solar technology, which already generates over 200 MW in various parts of India.
