ZF Wind Power has achieved a major milestone by producing 50 GW of wind turbine gearboxes at its Coimbatore plant.
ZF is investing €50 million to increase the plant’s production capacity from 9 GW to 12 GW, aiming to reach 25 GW globally. This expansion will create 225 new jobs and support rising demand in both domestic and international markets, especially from India and the US.
ZF is also preparing for onshore and offshore wind projects in India, leveraging its experience from Europe and North America. The Coimbatore plant, ZF’s largest outside China, plans to produce an additional 50 GW of gearboxes in the next five years, aiming for a cumulative 100 GW by 2029.
The facility will reach 12 GW capacity by the end of next year, with a 13.2 MW test bench operational by Q1 2025. ZF is working to overcome challenges like higher production costs in India, seeking government support to enhance competitiveness.
