Mines ministry reviews progress of critical mineral recycling scheme

The Ministry of Mines has reviewed the progress of the critical mineral recycling incentive scheme launched on October 2, 2025. The ministry noted strong interest from applicants and confirmed that several entities have already registered on the portal.

The scheme aims to create a recycling capacity of 3 trillion per annum for the extraction of critical minerals from secondary sources. It offers Rs 15 billion in incentives and will remain open for applications until April 1, 2026. According to the ministry, the scheme supports recovery from e-waste, lithium-ion batteries and industrial scrap.

The scheme is part of the National Critical Mineral Mission. It was approved by the Union Cabinet on September 3, 2025 and launched with detailed guidelines on October 2, 2025. Applications are open for six months, from October 2, 2025 to April 1, 2026.
