The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has updated the phased manufacturing programme (PMP) for public EV charging stations under the PM E-Drive scheme.
Domestic production of enclosures, wiring harnesses, and software for charge point protocols has been required since December 2021. From June 2022, localisation extended to auxiliary power supplies, DC meters, and DC-side switchgear. AC contactors and RFID systems followed in July 2022.
Type 2 AC charging guns were added in January 2023. DC charging guns and charger controllers must be locally made from June 2024. AC–DC converters and other power electronics are included from December 2025.
All stations must comply with the PMP version in force at the time of order and meet IS:17017 standards. Imports in completely knocked-down (CKD) form from a single supplier are no longer allowed.
These rules also apply to FAME-II-funded stations if supply is pending.
