The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) and Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) have signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) to support Maharashtra’s energy transition through regulatory and policy innovations.
The initiative will explore areas such as grid management, renewable energy integration, demand flexibility, energy efficiency, and tariff rationalization.
The collaboration builds on a prior partnership between GEAPP and NITI Aayog, aiming to enhance transformative actions at the state level.
MERC has recently introduced new regulations, including Resource Adequacy and Demand Flexibility, to improve grid operations and stability in the state.
GEAPP’s goal is to accelerate the transition to renewable energy by strengthening energy grids and integrating cost-effective renewable sources like solar and wind.
The partnership will focus on reducing delivery costs and improving consumer welfare by fostering regulatory innovation. It will integrate global best practices with state-specific expertise to address Maharashtra’s evolving energy needs.
Sanjay Kumar, Chairperson of MERC, emphasized the partnership’s role in bringing fresh perspectives to Maharashtra’s electricity network. Saurabh Kumar, Vice President of GEAPP India, praised MERC’s leadership and highlighted the potential for building scalable, sustainable, and consumer-centric solutions.
