Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) has dispatched the third steam generator for the 1,400 MW Kaiga-Units 5 and 6 Nuclear Power Plant Project in Uttara Kannada, Karnataka.
The project is being implemented by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) as Phase III of the Kaiga facility.
L&T had previously dispatched the second steam generator on July 12, 2024.
Phase I, comprising Units 1 and 2 (2×220 MW), and Phase II, consisting of Units 3 and 4 (2×220 MW), were commissioned in 2011. On March 12, 2018, L&T Special Steels and Heavy Forgings Private Limited, a joint venture of L&T and NPCIL, received an Award of Contract worth Rs 4,442 million to supply forgings for nuclear steam generators under the project.
Additionally, on July 9, 2021, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) secured a contract from NPCIL to supply two steam generators under the project on a fleet mode basis. Later, BHEL was awarded the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the turbine island of the project.
