BESS kept with solar plants

KPI Green Energy Limited has begun 2026 with multiple developments, including securing its first large Battery Energy Storage System project and commissioning a major hybrid project ahead of schedule in Gujarat. The updates were shared through regulatory filings made between 01 January and 03 January 2026.

In its latest filing, KPI Green stated that its subsidiary Sun Drops Energia Private Limited has received a Letter of Intent from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects with a total capacity of 445 MW and 890 MWh. The projects were awarded under a competitive bid with Viability Gap Funding support. This is KPI Green’s first utility-scale BESS project and its first such award from a major government entity. The grid-connected installations will operate independently to support grid reliability and peak demand management.

This follows the company’s announcement a day earlier that its 92.15 MWp hybrid Independent Power Producer project, also awarded by GUVNL, has begun supplying power ahead of its scheduled July 2026 timeline. The project includes 75.2 MWp of solar capacity and 16.95 MW of wind capacity. According to the company’s press release, the early commissioning reflects execution capability and will be backed by long-term revenues under a Power Purchase Agreement with GUVNL.

Separately, on 01 January 2026, KPI Green informed the exchanges that it has received charging approval for an additional 32.40 MW of solar and hybrid solar capacity under its Captive Power Producer business segment. These projects were developed by KPI Green and Sun Drops Energia.

Taken together, these developments indicate the company’s continued expansion across solar, wind, hybrid, and now large-scale storage.
