Key leadership changes in India’s power sector

The past year witnessed several leadership transitions across the power sector, both at the ministerial level and within major companies. New ministers have taken charge at the central and state levels, while several public and private sector organisations have also announced senior management appointments.
Among public sector undertakings, leadership changes were seen in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, NTPC, Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). Prominent private players such as Tata Power, ACME Solar, Jakson Green, and Mahindra Susten have also strengthened their executive teams. Below is a summary of key recent appointments in the sector.
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has appointed Sanjay Banga as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Banga previously headed Tata Power’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) business across Mumbai, Delhi, Odisha, and Ajmer.
Jakson Green has appointed Ravindra Kumar Goyal as Chief Commercial Officer. Goyal has held senior roles at Gensol Group, ACME Group, and Vikram Solar, where he led supply chain and commercial functions. His experience spans green hydrogen, solar PV manufacturing, and solar EPC.
ACME Solar has appointed Rajat Kumar Singh as Group Chief Financial Officer and designated him as Key Managerial Personnel. Singh previously served with Lodha Group, Adani Group, Reliance Infrastructure, GMR Infrastructure, Steel Authority of India, and DCM Shriram in various senior finance roles.
ReEnergi has appointed Vijay Bhosale as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Bhosale’s background includes investment banking roles at ABN Amro Bank NV and Standard Chartered Bank, and Managing Partner at Zeta Capital.
Hindustan Power Exchange Limited (HPX) has appointed Harish Saran as Managing Director, effective June 9, 2025. Saran has more than 37 years of experience in power trading and has worked with NTPC Limited and Power Grid Corporation of India.
Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL) has appointed Dwijadas Basak as Chief Executive Officer, effective June 9, 2025. Basak previously served as CEO of TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited and headed Tata Power’s Odisha Distribution Business.
Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has appointed Akhilesh Kumar Dixit as Chief Executive Officer. Dixit joins from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, where he held several senior positions across core business functions.
Avener Green has appointed Binaya Bhusan Panda as Chief Executive Officer. Panda was previously Chief Operating Officer at Gensol Engineering Limited and has held leadership roles with the Aditya Birla Group and Welspun Group.
Sunspire Green Energy Private Limited has appointed Manish Narola as Chief Executive Officer. Narola brings significant experience in sustainable development and clean energy and will focus on expanding Sunspire’s solar, wind, and hybrid energy portfolio.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the reappointment of Gurdeep Singh as Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC Limited for one year beyond his superannuation, from August 1, 2025, to July 31, 2026.
IAS officer Mir Mohammed Ali (Kerala cadre, 2011 batch) has been appointed Director in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. He has also been assigned additional charge as Chairman and Managing Director of Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) Limited.
Mahindra Susten has appointed Avinash Rao as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. His prior roles include leadership positions at Sustainable Energy Infra Trust, Sekura India Management, and CLP India.
Akash Tripathi, a 1998-batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been appointed Managing Director of Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI).
GPS Renewables has appointed Parag Parikh as Chief Executive Officer of GPSR Arya and Group Chief Financial Officer. Parikh previously served as CFO at Adani Total Gas and has over 25 years of experience in infrastructure and energy finance.
Hinduja Renewables has appointed Deepak Thakur as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. He has held senior roles at Mahindra Group, Reliance, Sterling & Wilson, L&T, Honeywell, and Thermax.
THDC India Limited has appointed L.P. Joshi as Chief Technical Officer, effective October 14, 2025. Joshi has over 30 years of experience in hydropower and previously served as Executive Director of the Tehri Complex.
