The Government of Karnataka has issued an order to establish the transmission system for evacuating power from the 2,000 MW Sharavathi Pumped Storage Hydel Project.
REC Power Distribution Company Limited (REC PDCL) has been appointed as the bid process coordinator. The project will follow a tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process. REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL) will oversee the bidding.
The project is planned alongside a 2,000 MW solar park in Tumakuru district. Both will be developed under the TBCB model, with private players participating under the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission’s tariff framework.
Officials have stated the process will adhere to forest and wildlife regulations. They assured practical execution and aim to complete bidding within six months. However, conservation groups continue to oppose the project due to ecological concerns.
