JA Solar has signed a 1.25GW module supply agreement with China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) for Africa’s largest photovoltaic (PV) and storage project in Egypt.
The agreement, finalized during the World Future Energy Summit 2025 in Abu Dhabi, makes JA Solar the exclusive supplier of high-efficiency n-type PV modules for the Abydos Phase II 1GW+600MWh PV-storage project.
The project, developed by AMEA Power and constructed by CEEC, spans 20 km² and is set to generate 3,000 GWh annually, powering 500,000 households and offsetting over one million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly highlighted its role in advancing Egypt’s Vision 2030 by increasing renewable energy use and enhancing electricity supply quality.
The project’s stakeholders include AMEA Power chairman Hussain Al Nowais, CEEC Egypt International president Shupeng Su, and JA Solar Energy Storage BG president Tony Zhu.
