India has signed a Project Implementation Agreement (PIA) with the International Solar Alliance (ISA) to execute solar energy projects in Fiji, Comoros, Madagascar, and Seychelles.

This initiative, aligned with the Quad Climate Working Group’s agenda, focuses on addressing energy challenges and supporting sustainable development in the Indo-Pacific region.

The agreement, formalized on November 26, 2024, supports the Wilmington Declaration made during the Quad Leaders’ Summit, where Quad countries—India, the US, Japan, and Australia—pledged to foster clean energy investments and build resilient energy supply chains.

India has pledged $2 million to fund solar energy initiatives addressing agricultural, healthcare, and irrigation challenges in underserved regions.

The projects include solar-powered cold storage to reduce post-harvest losses, solarized healthcare centres for reliable energy, and solar water pumps to boost irrigation in remote areas.

These projects, led by the ISA, aim to enhance energy access, create jobs, and improve living standards in the recipient countries, addressing significant gaps in energy reliability.

The ISA, with 123 member countries, will oversee the implementation, tailoring solar solutions to the unique needs of each country while leveraging its expertise in solar energy.
