India has reached 100 GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing capacity registered under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) for Solar PV Modules.
Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi said the increase was enabled by policy measures such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for high-efficiency solar modules. He noted that this capacity growth supports India’s goal of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
The ALMM Order was issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) on January 2, 2019. The first list, published on March 10, 2021, recorded 8.2 GW of enlisted capacity. In just over four years, the capacity has risen more than twelvefold, with the number of enlisted manufacturers growing from 21 to 100, operating a total of 123 manufacturing units.
The expansion includes established companies and new entrants, many adopting high-efficiency technologies and integrated operations. This growth has positioned India to meet domestic demand and participate in global markets. MNRE stated it will continue policy support, infrastructure development, and industry engagement to strengthen the manufacturing ecosystem.
