India and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have signed an agreement to deepen cooperation in the energy sector, prioritising security of supply across all energy sources.

Both sides agreed to collaborate on balancing global energy market dynamics and strengthening supply chain resilience. The agreement includes support for India’s strategic petroleum reserve programme and extends to crude oil, LPG, refining, and petrochemicals.

Cooperation will also cover electricity and renewable energy. A joint study on electrical interconnection between the two countries is being finalised. The partnership will include knowledge exchange in grid automation, connectivity, resilience, and security. Both countries aim to cooperate on energy storage technologies and renewable projects.

India and Saudi Arabia will also work together to develop green and clean hydrogen. This includes stimulating demand, advancing hydrogen transport and storage technologies, and sharing best practices.

The agreement covers energy efficiency as well. The two countries will work to improve efficiency in buildings, industry, and transport, while promoting rational energy consumption.

On climate change, both reaffirmed commitment to the UN Framework Convention and the Paris Agreement. They agreed on targeting emissions rather than sources. India acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s Saudi Green and Middle East Green Initiatives, while Saudi Arabia welcomed India’s efforts through the International Solar Alliance, One Sun-One World-One Grid, and other global initiatives.

The two sides also committed to developing circular carbon economy applications as a tool for managing emissions.
