Iberdrola, through its Perseo start-up programme, has invested in Revestimientos Técnicos Sostenibles (RTS), an Andalusian company specializing in thermal insulation and anti-corrosion coatings.
The collaboration focuses on advanced materials such as cork, hollow ceramic microspheres, and aerogel for use in offshore wind structures and building renovations.
Iberdrola aims to incorporate these materials into the construction and maintenance of its offshore wind farms, enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability.
RTS, based in Utrera, Seville, Spain, joins Iberdrola’s Perseo portfolio, which has invested over €200 million since 2008 to promote innovative technologies in the energy sector.
Separately, Iberdrola’s UK subsidiary, ScottishPower Energy Networks, has received regulatory approval for the €3 billion ($1.95 billion) Eastern Green Link 1 project.
This project involves a 196 km high-voltage subsea electricity cable connecting Torness in Scotland to Hawthorn Pit in England. It will transport clean electricity generated in the North Sea to power two million UK homes.
Developed in partnership with National Grid Electricity, the project also includes constructing high-voltage direct current converter stations at Torness and Hawthorn Pit, ensuring bidirectional clean energy transmission.
