In August 2024, Gujarat’s hydropower plants generated 1,067.3 million units (MU) of electricity, a rise from 308.7 MU in July, due to monsoon-driven water inflows filling the state’s dams, according to ANI. The Sardar Sarovar Dam was the largest contributor, generating over 800 MU, with its River Bed Power House (RBPH) and Canal Head Power House (CHPH) stations producing a combined total of 891 MU.
Additional contributions came from the Ukai Dam, which generated 143.1 MU, and the Kadana Dam, producing 30.9 MU. Over the years, Gujarat’s hydropower plants, including those at Sardar Sarovar, Ukai, and Kadana, have averaged 4,600 MU in annual generation.
The fiscal year 2022-23 saw record hydropower generation at 6,170 MU, a 134% increase from the previous year.
