Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group has announced plans to collaborate with Druk Holding & Investments Ltd (DHI), the commercial arm of the Royal Government of Bhutan, to develop green energy projects, focusing on solar and hydropower initiatives. The partnership will also explore innovative green technologies to support Bhutan’s net-zero goals.

Reliance Group has launched a new flagship company, Reliance Enterprises, jointly promoted by Reliance Infrastructure Ltd and Reliance Power Ltd, to promote investments in Bhutan’s renewable energy sector. The company will focus on sustainable energy solutions and smart distribution systems.

In a significant step, Reliance Enterprises and Druk Holding will jointly develop a 500 MW solar power plant in Gelephu Mindfulness City, Bhutan. The project, to be executed in two phases of 250 MW each over two years, will be the largest solar installation in Bhutan and the biggest foreign direct investment (FDI) by an Indian company in the country.

Additionally, Reliance Power Ltd and Druk Holding have partnered to develop the 770 MW Chamkharchhu-1 hydro project, a run-of-the-river initiative. With Bhutan’s current installed power generation capacity at 2,452 MW, this joint venture will boost the country’s renewable energy capacity.
