Goa signs PPA with NTPC for supply from Sipat Stage-III plant

The Goa electricity department has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) for sourcing power from the Sipat Stage-III power plant in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh.

Goa does not operate any in-state generation facilities and relies entirely on power purchases from NTPC’s central pool to meet its electricity demand. The deal will allow Goa to draw power from the NTPC plant as part of its central allocation.

The Sipat Stage-III project will add a new 800 MW supercritical unit to the existing thermal power station. In 2024, NTPC awarded a Rs 61 billion engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the Sipat Stage-III unit to Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL). With this addition, Sipat’s installed capacity will increase from 2,980 MW to 3,780 MW, with four out of six units operating on supercritical technology. The plant supplies power to multiple states in the western region, including Maharashtra, Goa, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and the union territory of Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu.
