GE Vernova secures five onshore wind deals in Spain
GE Vernova has signed five agreements to supply its 6.1 MW turbines with 158-meter rotors for onshore wind projects across Spain. The company will supply and commission 16 turbines to two wind farms in Castilla León—eight for Casa Vieja and eight for Pedrejones. Deliveries are scheduled to begin at the end of 2024.
In addition, GE Vernova will upgrade the Les Colladetes wind farm in Catalonia, installing eight turbines for Enervent, and will supply five turbines to the Barranco del Agua wind farm in Andalucía as part of a deal with Greenvolt.
GE Vernova already has over 4.3GW of operational capacity in Spain, supported by an engineering center in Barcelona and two wind turbine blade factories.
Earlier this year, GE Vernova secured a €700 million ($760.8 million) contract to supply turbines for the 760MW Teruel wind project in eastern Spain. Globally, the company boasts around 56,000 turbines and nearly 120GW of installed capacity.
In 2023, wind energy became Spain’s leading electricity source, covering over 24% of demand with more than 22,000 turbines generating 61,000 gigawatt-hours. The country aims to surpass 50GW of wind power by 2030, driven by its National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP), placing Spain second in Europe for installed wind capacity after Germany. GlobalData forecasts Spain’s wind power market will grow at a compound annual rate of more than 6% by 2035.
