Hitachi Energy has announced plans to invest an additional $155 million into its North American manufacturing operations, including the construction of a new distribution transformer factory in Reynosa, Mexico, and expansions at existing facilities in South Boston, Virginia, and Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania. This move is part of the company’s broader strategy to address surging demand for electrical equipment in the region.
The $70 million facility in Reynosa will focus on producing single-phase padmount distribution transformers, creating 350 jobs. Meanwhile, $25 million will be allocated to expand the South Boston facility, increasing the production of large distribution transformers and adding 100 new jobs.
In Mount Pleasant, a $60 million investment will double production capacity for high-voltage switchgear and breakers, adding another 100 jobs. These expansions are part of Hitachi Energy’s response to the growing demand for high-voltage products in North America, driven by the company’s rapidly expanding order backlog.
