Four companies have qualified as bidders after the opening of technical bids for the intra-state transmission system to evacuate 1,230 MW power from Mahan Energen Ltd.’s (MEL) 2×800 MW thermal power project. The qualified firms are Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL), and KCC Buildcon Pvt Ltd.

REC Power Distribution Company Limited (REC PDCL), which is serving as the bid process coordinator, had invited Request for Proposal (RfP) bids for the selection of a transmission service provider (TSP) under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process on a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) basis. The bidding process commenced on November 18, 2024, with the last date for bid submission being January 28, 2025.

The transmission project involves the construction of key infrastructure for power evacuation from the Mahan Energen thermal power plant. At Rewa (Sagra), a 400/220/132 kV substation will be built with transformers, switchable reactors, and multiple line bays. The transmission network will include a 400 kV double-circuit double-string (DCDS) line between PTEMPL (MEL) Switchyard and Rewa (Sagra), along with a loop-in loop-out (LILO) of the Rewa-Sirmour/Bansagar-I 220 kV line at Rewa (Sagra). Additionally, a 220 kV DCDS line will be established from Rewa (Sagra) to Kotar, along with several 132 kV interconnecting lines between Rewa (Sagra) and Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Limited (MPPTCL) substations.

At Amarpatan, a 400/220/132 kV substation will be developed with transformers, reactors, and multiple line bays. The transmission network will include a 400 kV DCDS line between Rewa (Sagra) and Amarpatan, as well as a LILO of the Maihar-Satna (PGCIL) 220 kV line at Amarpatan. Additionally, multiple 132 kV lines will connect Amarpatan with substations such as Satna-II, Rampur Baghelan, and Unchehra.

While PGCIL, AESL, and MEIL are established players in power transmission, KCC Buildcon is making its debut in this space. Notably, KCC has also prequalified for the augmentation of transformation capacity at Banaskantha (Raghanesda) PS (GIS). The ISTS-TBCB segment has seen increased participation from new entrants in recent years, including Apraava Energy, Dineshchandra R. Agrawal Infracon Pvt Ltd, Resurgent Power Ventures, G R Infraprojects Ltd, Tata Power, Techno Electric & Engineering Company Ltd, Torrent Power, and Reliance Industries.
