The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has recommended the grant of environmental clearance (EC) for the Uri-I Stage II Hydro Electric Project. The recommendation was made during its meetings on January 29, 2025.

NHPC Limited will implement the 240 MW project in Uri, Boniyar, Kreeri, Baramulla, and Rafiabad sub-districts of Baramulla district, Jammu & Kashmir. The project, estimated to cost Rs 21.67 billion, will be developed under a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) model for 40 years as per a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the Government of Jammu & Kashmir.

On the same day, EAC also recommended the grant of Terms of Reference (ToR) for three pumped storage projects (PSPs):

  • Ghosla Pumped Storage Project: Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) will develop the project in Pachora, Sillod, and Soegaon sub-districts of Jalgaon and Aurangabad districts, Maharashtra, at an estimated cost of Rs 98.99 billion.
  • 3,000 MW Saidongar I (Closed loop) Pumped Storage Project: Torrent Power Limited (TPL) will implement the project through Torrent Psh 3 Private Limited in Saidongar, Kusur, and Dhak villages, Mawal and Karjat tehsils, Raigarh and Pune districts, Maharashtra, with an investment of Rs 130.17 billion.
  • 1,200 MW Saidongar II (Closed loop) Pumped Storage Project: Torrent Power Limited (TPL) will implement the project through Torrent Psh 4 Private Limited in Saidongar, Kusur, and Dhak villages, Mawal and Karjat tehsils, Raigarh and Pune districts, Maharashtra, with an investment of Rs 60.88 billion.

Meanwhile, EAC returned the proposal for ToR for the Kamod Pumped Storage Project.
