The Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), has partnered with Shell India to roll out a green skills and electric vehicle (EV) training programme. Edunet Foundation is implementing the initiative.
The programme will run across selected industrial training institutes (ITIs) and national skill training institutes (NSTIs) in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. Specialised EV skill labs will be set up at chosen centres to offer practical training in electric mobility and green technologies.
The training is structured in three tiers. A 240-hour advanced EV technician course will be offered at 4 NSTIs. At 12 ITIs with Shell-supported labs, a 90-hour job-oriented course will be delivered. A 50-hour foundation module on green skills will be introduced at other ITIs without labs.
The curriculum has been developed jointly by Shell, DGT, and Edunet Foundation. It covers EV systems, battery technologies, safety protocols, diagnostics, and the use of digital tools.
Over 250 instructors will be trained under the programme. Students will receive co-branded certifications and structured placement support to enhance job readiness.
