Delhi officials unveil foundation plaques for 55.5 MW Battery Energy Storage System projects and launch undergrounding of overhead power cables in Chandni Chowk.

Delhi has initiated two grid infrastructure projects, including the foundation laying for four utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with a combined capacity of 55.5 MW / 111 MWh, and the launch of an underground cabling project in Chandni Chowk.

The BESS installations will be developed at Shivalik, Dwarka and Goyala Khurd in South and West Delhi under BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL). These systems are intended to support load management and enhance supply reliability. In addition, a foundation stone was laid for a 66/11 kV, 63 MVA gas insulated switchgear (GIS) indoor grid substation at Mandoli under BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL).

Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood, Member of Parliament Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Councillor Suman Kumar Gupta were present at the foundation-laying ceremony.

Separately, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched a project to replace overhead power lines with underground cables in Chandni Chowk. The initiative is aimed at improving safety and reducing the visual impact of overhead wiring in the historic commercial area.
