The Chandigarh Renewal Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST) will roll out rooftop solar installations on government-built properties using the renewable energy service company (RESCO) model.
The initiative will begin with 3 MW of projects across identified sites, starting with a pilot at the Chandigarh Housing Board’s Sector 51 Housing Society. CREST has signed a memorandum of understanding after discussions with the local resident welfare association.
More installations are planned on municipal corporation (MC) properties. The MC has already submitted a list of locations to CREST for consideration.
Under the RESCO model, a private developer will fund the full cost of the installation. The electricity generated will be sold to Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited at Rs 4.96 per unit.
