The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has granted a transmission licence to Khavda IV A Power Transmission Ltd, a subsidiary of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL).
The licence, effective for 25 years unless revoked earlier, covers the development of an interstate transmission system (ISTS) for the evacuation of power from a renewable energy zone in Gujarat’s Khavda area.
The project, known as the “Transmission system for evacuation of power from potential renewable energy zone in Khavda area of Gujarat under Phase-IV (7 GW): Part A,” will be executed on a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) basis.
AESL acquired Khavda IV A Power Transmission Ltd on August 30, 2024, after winning the bid process under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mode with an annual transmission charge of Rs 5.09 billion. This bid was 29.4 per cent lower than AESL’s initial price of Rs 7.21 billion.
The project, to be completed by August 30, 2026, involves the creation of a 765 kV bus section-II at Khadva Pooling Station-3 (GIS), a 400 kV bus section-II at KPS3 (GIS), and a 765 kV double-circuit line from KPS1 (GIS) to Bhuj PS, among other works. The estimated project cost is Rs 41 billion.
AESL currently has eight under-construction ISTS-TBCB projects, with Khavda IV A marking its first win of FY25. Other wins include Jamnagar Transmission Ltd, Navinal Transmission Ltd, and Pune-III Transmission Ltd, with an additional letter of intent received for the Rajasthan Part I Power Transmission Ltd scheme.
