CCI acquires Dutch battery storage platform LCEGS

S4 Energy, a subsidiary of Castleton Commodities International (CCI) specializing in grid-scale battery energy storage, has acquired Netherlands-based LC Energy’s battery storage platform, LCEGS.

This acquisition enhances the energy grid’s resilience by merging LCEGS’ development expertise with S4 Energy’s operational experience.

Battery energy storage is crucial for Europe’s decarbonisation goals and grid stability. With increasing reliance on renewable energy and demand from sectors like data centres, battery storage is set to play a key role in supporting grid infrastructure.

S4 Energy plans to position itself as an independent flexibility provider within the next three years, focusing primarily on the Netherlands, Germany, and neighbouring markets. The company is currently developing four medium-voltage projects in the Netherlands, each with a four-hour capacity, slated to go live in 2025.

Mohit Singh, principal at CCI’s European investments team, described the acquisition as a transformative step towards establishing a pan-European battery energy storage platform, underscoring energy storage’s role in decarbonisation.

The acquisition also strengthens CCI’s footprint in the Dutch battery sector, following its recent purchase of a majority stake in UK-based L48 Energy in late 2023, aimed at expanding grid-scale battery development across Europe.
