Bihar signs MoUs for 2,357 MW green energy projects worth Rs 53 billion

The Bihar government has signed four agreements with energy companies to support renewable and pumped storage projects totalling 2,357 MW. The deals align with the state’s newly launched policies on clean energy.

The Department of Energy formalised the MoUs during the rollout of the Bihar Policy for Promotion of New & Renewable Energy Sources 2025 and the Bihar Policy for Promotion of Pumped Storage Project 2025. The combined investment under these agreements is estimated at Rs 53.37 billion. The policies focus on promoting solar, wind, biomass, green hydrogen, and pumped storage technologies.

The Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited entered into an MoU with Larsen & Toubro for a 116 MW/241 MWh battery energy storage system in Kajra, Lakhisarai. This project is expected to attract an investment of Rs 8.37 billion.

A separate agreement was signed with NTPC Green Energy Limited to develop a 1,000 MW battery energy storage facility. The investment for this project is estimated at Rs 15 billion.

The Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency signed two MoUs. One is with Avaada Group for 1,000 MW of ground-mounted and floating solar capacity, contingent on feasibility. The second is with Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited to support floating solar and other renewable projects, with a planned investment of Rs 30 billion.
