Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has signed a Technology Collaboration Agreement with E2S Company Limited of South Korea for static and brushless excitation systems for synchronous machines, the state-owned power equipment manufacturer disclosed to BSE and NSE on April 9, 2026.
The agreement covers Static Excitation Systems (SEE) and Brushless Excitation Systems equipped with automatic voltage regulators (AVR). Under the arrangement, BHEL will gain access to E2S’s engineering know-how, design tools, and manufacturing practices. It is authorised to design, engineer, manufacture, install, commission, service, test, retrofit, and sell both system types in India and overseas markets.
E2S, headquartered in South Korea, has supplied excitation control systems for synchronous machines used in thermal, gas, hydro, and nuclear power plants for over 30 years. Excitation systems regulate the magnetic field in a synchronous generator, enabling control of voltage output and reactive power supplied to the grid.
The agreement was signed by S.M. Ramanathan, Director (Engineering, Research and Development) at BHEL, and Woosik Choi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of E2S, in the presence of senior officials from both companies. Financial terms and detailed contractual conditions have not been disclosed and were marked confidential in the exchange filing.
BHEL stated that the collaboration is aimed at strengthening its position in the excitation systems segment and supporting localisation of key components through domestic manufacturing, aligned with the Make in India initiative. The company has been working to upgrade its technology portfolio as the power sector evolves and competition from private and international equipment suppliers increases.
