Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) has issued a tender for the Kingdom’s first solar power plant, aiming to expand renewable energy adoption and support its goal of carbon neutrality by 2060. The project, planned at 150 MW, will be developed in partnership with the private sector.
The plant will cover 1.2 square kilometres near Bilaj Al Jazayer in southern Bahrain and is expected to supply electricity to around 6,300 homes. It is projected to cut carbon emissions by over 100,000 tonnes annually. Advanced solar technology will be deployed to meet growing energy demand and enhance long-term energy security.
The initiative is a key step in increasing the renewable energy share in Bahrain’s energy mix, promoting sustainability, and strengthening collaboration between the public and private sectors.
