Avina Clean Hydrogen (Avina) has completed the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) and Front-End-Loading (FEL-3) for its 2,200 metric tons per day (MTPD) clean ammonia facility on the Texas Gulf Coast.
The final investment decision (FID) for the facility is targeted for 2025. The facility is expected to produce up to 600,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) of blue ammonia.
Avina has secured a long-term water supply agreement with the local water district to meet the resource requirements for producing up to 800,000 MTPA of clean ammonia. Additionally, interconnection studies have been completed to ensure access to 1 GW of transmission capacity. The facility aims to deliver low-carbon-intensity ammonia to European RFNBO compliance markets at competitive rates.
The plant has also achieved tier 1 clean hydrogen pre-certification from the Korean Energy Economics Institute, with a Well-to-Gate CI score of 0.04 kg carbon equivalent per kg of hydrogen. KBR provided the Basic Engineering Design (BED) package, Larsen & Toubro led the overall FEED effort, and EXCEL oversaw constructability aspects.
