Assam signs solar and BESS deal with Oriana at investment summit

The New and Renewable Energy Department, Government of Assam (GoA), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oriana Power Limited to develop solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in the Kamrup district.
The agreement was formalized at the Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2025 on February 28, 2025. The project is estimated to cost Rs 5 billion.
The summit also saw major investment announcements, including Rs 500 billion from Adani Group for airports, aerocities, city gas distribution, power transmission, cement, and road projects. Tata Power signed an MoU with the state government to develop 5,000 MW of renewable energy and storage projects, including solar, wind, and hydro, with an investment of Rs 300 billion over the next five years.
Ahead of the summit, the Assam Cabinet approved the Assam Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2025, positioning the state as a renewable energy hub. The policy promotes solar, wind, small hydro, pumped storage, BESS, green hydrogen, biofuels, and EV infrastructure, along with incentives for clean energy investments.
