The Government of Andhra Pradesh has announced plans to establish 200 new power substations across the state at an estimated cost of Rs 6,000 crore. The initiative targets regions where electricity consumption is increasing across industrial, commercial, residential and agricultural sectors.
Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar presented the plan in the State Assembly in Amaravati on Thursday. The minister stated that the expansion is intended to strengthen the distribution network and prevent supply disruptions as electricity demand continues to rise.
The government has identified high-load regions and prepared proposals for the new substations in those areas. The facilities are expected to improve electricity distribution efficiency by reducing transmission losses and ensuring reliable power delivery to consumers.
Alongside the larger installations, the authorities are also approving the development of multiple 33/11 kV substations across the state based on local demand. These substations will function as distribution nodes for local networks and support better load management at the community level.
As part of the broader expansion programme, two 220 kV substations are currently being developed in Vizianagaram district at an estimated cost of Rs 46 crore. These facilities are intended to strengthen grid stability in the region and support future electricity demand.
According to the minister, the initiative forms part of the state government’s effort to upgrade power infrastructure and ensure reliable electricity supply across all consumer categories as demand grows.
