Amazon and Global Optimism, co-founders of The Climate Pledge, have announced a joint initiative, JOULE (Joint Operation Unifying Last-mile Electrification), to build a shared network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Bengaluru. The project, supported by Pledge signatories like Mahindra Logistics, HCLTech, Greenko, and Deloitte, along with partners Kazam and Magenta Mobility, will see a collective investment of over USD 2.65 billion by 2030.

The project aims to power 5,500 EVs by 2030, with the first station operational and five more planned by year-end. At full capacity, the network could support 9,500 EVs. The charging stations will be powered by 100% renewable energy, matching an estimated 22,700 MWh of power by 2030. The initiative is projected to save 11.2 million litres of fuel and reduce 25,700 tonnes of carbon emissions.

This collaboration addresses India’s EV infrastructure challenges, including the need for charging stations, high capital costs, and range anxiety. It supports Bengaluru’s goal of achieving 100% EVs in key sectors by 2030 and aligns with India’s broader EV sales target of 30% by 2030.
