Adani Power Limited has received a Letter of Award from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) for the long-term supply of 1,600 MW of thermal power. The company disclosed the development to stock exchanges on Saturday.
The award followed a competitive bidding process in which Adani Power emerged as the lowest-tariff bidder, quoting Rs 5.30 per unit (kWh). Power will be supplied under a 25-year Power Supply Agreement (PSA), with deliveries scheduled to begin from FY2030-31.
The electricity will be generated from one of Adani Power’s upcoming ultra-supercritical thermal power projects. The agreement includes a pre-determined coal linkage, providing fuel security for the duration of the contract.
This marks the fifth long-term PSA secured by the company in FY2025-26. With this award, Adani Power has tied up 10,400 MW of capacity through such bids during the current financial year.
Overall, 13.3 GW of the company’s 23.8 GW capacity under implementation is now secured under long-term PSAs, with more than 55% of these agreements structured as 25-year contracts.
More than 95% of Adani Power’s current operating capacity of 18.15 GW is covered under medium-to-long-term supply contracts.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) S.B. Khyalia said the award reflects the company’s cost competitiveness and its ability to supply reliable baseload power. He added that Adani Power intends to support Maharashtra’s and the country’s electricity requirements through long-term supply arrangements.
Expansion plans
Adani Power is targeting an expansion of its capacity from 18.15 GW to 41.87 GW by FY2031-32. The expansion is backed by an investment of approximately Rs 2 lakh crore, described by the company as the largest private sector thermal power capital expenditure programme in India.
