Acciona has announced plans to construct a 225 MW photovoltaic plant in La Joya, Arequipa, Peru, for the electricity company Kallpa Generación.
Spanning 549 hectares, the project will feature 371,040 high-performance bifacial solar panels with advanced technology.
The solar farm is expected to generate 611 GWh of clean energy annually, enough to power 547,000 households and reduce CO₂ emissions by 215,000 tonnes each year. The plant will connect to the Peruvian power grid via the 220 kV San José substation.
Acciona will execute the project under a turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract, leveraging its expertise in large-scale solar installations.
Acciona has installed 2,952 MW of photovoltaic capacity in nine countries and has been active in Peru’s infrastructure sector since 1998. Its notable projects in Peru include the Lima peripheral ring road and the Daniel Alcides Carrión hospital, as well as the 131.1 MW San Juan de Marcona wind farm.
Additionally, Acciona has a strong presence in electricity transmission. It recently acquired Darby International Capital’s high-voltage transmission line business and was awarded three power transmission concessions by the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines. These projects involve over 400 km of transmission lines and six new substations, with an investment of $337 million.
In a separate development, Acciona Energía has agreed to sell its 626 MW hydroelectric portfolio in Spain to Endesa for €1 billion, with the transaction expected to close in the first half of 2025, pending regulatory approvals.
